2 major nerfs happened that hurt chest runners badly:

#1: at NF release chest drops were turned full-random, which was one of the moves to turn GW pve into a single player online game. Group chestruns became pointless since then (with the one exception being FoW with split entrance fee)

#2: the infamous 16.02 update, which (apart from nerfing Stygian Veil chest spawns) made it so that ALL locations don't always spawn their maximum number of chests (5 in Elona) anymore. The effect is that chestrunning take now significantly more time and is much more annoying.
Before this nerf I just ran till i found 5 and was happy, now I have to run all possible spawnpoints just to realise that it was a crappy run with only 3 chest spawns, and throw some swear words at Anet! (for making hidden nerfs and claiming that nothing changed)

These new chests are not random as they say. Normally in a zone there are 3 chests. They will ALWAYS be 1 gold 2 purps. You run outside get the gold first you go back and start again because you know the other two will always be purple.



And anet say they are trying to make the PvE more group friendly, but all they ever do is kill off group activities

This is just plain wrong. The chests are totally random (with a possible minor influence of antifarm code, but it can't be proven), so you never have a guaranteed gold chest drop in an area. Trust me, I ran 1500++ chests after the nerfage and i know the crops ARE random. Having 1 gold drop per run is just the most common occurence in most popular running areas.

I actually miss the dice rolling do see who was going to open first. But in some way, it was indeed some kind of art. You could always see people that were really experienced in raisu palace. When they made chests random, it kinda screwed making parties to run together, but I think they didn't consider it to be also a good feature in the game. I wish they changed it back to what it used to be, wanted to have some extra fun in tormented area with a party.

Random chests killed chestrunning.
Doom you, random chests !
Even since the update, I've kept on running , talked to people about it, asked rather they would like to come. After starting my chestrun academy , the hells precipice got a little boost, I've taught over 30 people that run I think. If you see a w/a there, it's probaly one of my students. And I am proud of that. I do my best to make chestrunning as popular as it used to be. I give players hints on how to redeem most of their money, wich chestrun would be suited for them and so on. That's the only way to do it...

Players must know that you can profit from chestrunning, even with the random chests !


I reached 1 mil a couple of days ago, and decided that's enough for me. I don't need anymore money, so I was thinking of making an in depth guide on chestrunning ( My lessons were not for free ) , that I would post here. I've looked all over the internet, but I couldn't find one descent guide....Maybe that's the reason why there are not much new chestrunners ?

Spread the words guys, wear your chest hunter title, and when someone says
'' nice title ''
or
'' where did you get your title ? ''

Get him into your party , and show him the run !

I miss the CR fun and mentality, sometimes I think it was the closest thing to a community feel. Also helped with unmapping aswell.

In my Opinion, Random chest actually make rare skin more pricey due to that it is harder and pricier for each person to get. to compensate their lost to getting purple from chest, ppl sell it for higher price and people who want those skin have no choice but buying it at high price.

price of item is determine by demand and supply. if supply is high, the price will be low and vise versa. Anet's random chest drop actually reduce the supply to an increase demand. as a result more and more rare skin item getting pricier.

Meh I don't miss group running.. I always solo, don't have to rely on someone else, stupid wammos rushing into aggro without waiting.. I always learn the mob patrols by heart, and there was always a stupid guy who just rushed.. But when PUG'ing, I didn't like the change that made color be random for each key..

well 1 in a million nf items are worth anything which explains alot. Unless you get a ele sword or somthing its like merch food

It still makes me very sad that I open high end chests and I get a grape. Its just wrong.

I would expect that from a chest that doesn't count to the title, but not for one's that cost a lot of cash. :/ even after 10,000+ chests, I would like to run more, it was fun, and I really enjoyed getting rares so often, since getting one in regular game play is..um.. a bit hard ;o
